I Made It!!!

Well, I made it yesterday, but I was too excited to do anything else… AND then I went to sleep for about 50 million hours. =)

5 mile run around the neighborhood… fresh air is such a wonderful thing that we take for granted. Despite the light morning rain, it was very nice!

Today’s workout was a quick 3-miler at 6mph. I must admit… I was elated when I went to this morning and saw that today was a REST day!

4 Days…

… Before I can satisfy this mouth-watering craving for freshly baked begniets & coffee! Perhaps at Cafe Du Monde!

Today’s run was a slow and steady 10-miler at 5mph. The ankle is still a bit swollen, but it didn’t bother me during the run. =)

Autumn is a beautiful season (and name… just wanted to point that out). The non-city folk were drying corn out in the ‘burbs this weekend…I got this cool pic on my way home from the flower market! =)

5 Days…

…Until I line up outside of 726 St. Peter Street to get the best seats (or pillows) in the house at Preservation Hall!!!

Today’s Workout:
Had to mix up the CrossFit… Instead of the 10x press with 60sec breaks (didn’t have the weights available), I did 10 rounds of 20 double unders with 10sec breaks………………..

Then I realized my ankle wasn’t feeling up to today’s run. =/

So… I opted out of the 20 minutes of speed work I had planned to be sure that I felt good for tomorrow’s long run. We shall see!

Don’t Let Anyone Touch Your Treadmill…

… you’ll be sorry if you do!!!

I had a great workout yesterday with the Viking Superhero (who asked to remain anonymous… for now). It was 20 minutes of OUCH! He’s a CrossFit profit… spreading the daily workout to anyone who’ll listen… Viking Superhero by day, prophet of workouts after business hours.

– Sprint Row Tabata (Tabata = 20sec of intense activity + 10sec of rest… for 8reps)
– Complete as many rounds as possible within 15min (should have been 30min, but we were running out of time)

  • 10 – lat pull downs (50lbs) or 10 – push ups
  • 15 – back extensions (25lbs)
  • 20 – sit ups (25lbs)
  • 400m run

… I completed 3 rounds + 400 meter run.

It felt great… except when the Viking walked over to my treadmill, lectured me about not pushing myself hard enough, and proceeded to up my speed to 10 MILES PER HOUR!!!

I’m sure his eyesight is 20-20. AND I’m sure he can see how short my legs are. Was he trying to kill me? Was it some sort of sick joke? Thankfully, I didn’t fall off the treadmill, but I’m NEVER EVER letting him near me while I’m on there EVER EVER AGAIN!!! EVER

Aside from that… CrossFit rocks. They post a new workout each day (except on rest days… the formula = 3 days on + 1 day off)… and they have some pretty cool pics…

Have you ever done any CrossFit workouts? If not, you should try it out!

China Open 2011

The China Open this year didn’t pull as many top names as it would have liked… with Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams dropping out at the last minute… but they sure did put on a great show!

At the National Tennis Complex, with brand new center court stadium, spectators had the option of watching matches on 10 courts… 7 of which only requiring a ground pass and perfect timing to get a seat. The great part about the “open” courts was that, if you did time it right you could be watching men’s final runner-up Marin Cilic take on fellow Croatian (and doubles partner) Ivan Ljubicic… or the American brothers, Bob and Mike Bryan, smash through to the doubles quarter-finals. I had passes to all center court games and took full advantage during this Golden Week in China. Minus watching Andy RODDICK and LI Na getting edged out in the first round… the games were exciting and entertaining. I did have a great time following some of my faves, like Jo-Wilfred TSONGA (France) and Paul CAPDEVILLE (Chile).

The build up was well worth it… and the finals did not disappoint.

Top honors went to Tomas BERDYCH, of the Czech Republic, and Agnieszka RADWANSKA, of Poland… and they both earned it. Blood, sweat, and tears….. and the occasional tennis battle cry! =)

I must say though, of all the games I had the pleasure of watching… it was the women’s final match that was hands down THE best! Those ladies really know how to put on a show… it was three sets of nail-biting, neck breaking, glory. Going into the match Radwanska was the favorite to win, but Germany’s Andrea PETKOVIC was not going out without a fight. After what appeared to be a game-ending knee injury as Petkovic had just rallied back to win 3 straight games in the first set… she called in the professionals to work a miracle. AND SHE DID! I don’t know what kind of special sauce/super-human sports medicine that little tennis fairy put on Petkovic’s knee, but it brought her back to life. She lost the first set 7-5, but took Radwanska to school winning the second set 6-0. I repeat… the lady with the knee injury won the second set 6-0. Athleticism at it’s finest. PAIN IS TEMPORARY!!! The two went game for game in the third set until Radwanska broke Petkovic’s service to gain a 5-3 lead and eventually close out the match by winning the next game. I would pay to watch those two do it all over again.

What at way to end a great tournament and a super long vacation!!!
